Namo Buddha, the sacred Buddhist shrine is located at south-east and couple hours drive from Kathmandu. Buddhists believe that anyone who worship here properly will get free from all kinds of evil spirits and their wills can be fulfilled. According to Buddhist Mythology, about 2550 years ago prince Siddhartha Gautam (Gautam Buddha) had gone to Hiranyagiri Mountain with his followers after worshiping the holy Stupa of Swyambhunath. Once he got over there he named the stupa protecting his relics from his previous life as "Namo Buddha", since then this holy place is named as Namo Buddha.
In one legend, it is mentioned that Buddha was born as Prince Mahasattwoo whose reincarnation form was Siddhartha Gautam. Prince Mahasattwoo was the youngest child of the powerful King Maharath. The Prince was a very kind hearted person and he used to treat every living beings as his own children.
One day the Prince had gone to visit jungle with all the members of royal family. On the way inside the jungle the Prince came accross a weak, starving mother tigress with her just born five babies. Looking at the pitiful condition of the poor tigress, the young prince asked his elder brothers about the solution to save the tigress. His brothers told him that only the fresh flesh and warm blood can save the tigress. Without killing others, there was no other way for the young prince to get the food for tigress, so he donated his own flesh and blood and sacrificed his life to save the starving mother tigress and her five just born babies.
His parents and brothers found out about his sacrifice. After that the sorrowful King collected the Prince's relics in a sandlewood box and burried it in the sacred place and later built a stupa over there in the memory of Prince Mahasattwoo, which is now famous as Namo Buddha.
