Green Channel:
Those passengers who are arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) without any dutiable goods can proceed through the Green Channel for quick clearance without a baggage check. But for those who are carrying dutiable articles, have to pass through the Red Channel for detailed customs clearance.
Import:
Visitors are allowed to bring free of duty cigarettes (200) or cigars (50), distilled liquor (one 1.15 litre bottle), and film (15 rolls) to Nepal apart from used personal belongings. A visitor is also allowed to bring the following articles free of duty on condition that the visitor take them out with him/her when leaving Nepal: binoculars, movie or video camera, still camera, laptop computer, and portable music system.
Export:
To export objects over 100 years old which are valued for culture and religious reasons is illegal. All the visitors are advised not to purchase such items as they are Nepal's cultural heritage and belong here in Nepal. Metal statues, sacred paintings, manuscripts and similar objects will have to be checked by the Department of Archaeology at Ramshah Path near Singha Durbar before they are allowed to be sent or carried out from Nepal. Travel agents and handicraft dealers are able to assist a visitor in this process.
